Kindergarten Curriculum ( SOL Compatible)
Islamic Studies
We will be focusing on three main units in Islamic Studies. Each unit will be taught through stories, craft activities, role play, and other interactive activities. The four main units are:
Who is Allah?
· The student will be able to identify Allah (swt) as the Creator.
· The student will understand the basic elements of Tawheed.
· The student will be able to identify 10 names of Allah (swt)
The Five Pillars
· The student will be able to list all five pillars.
· The student will know the names and times of all 5 prayers.
· The student will know when, why, and how Muslims fast.
· The student will recognize the motive behind Zakat.
· The student will be able to list the rituals of Hajj
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
The student will understand that Prophet (saaw) is Allah (swt)’s last Prophet. The student will know basic facts about the Prophet (SAW), such as:
· He was born in Makkah.
· He was born an orphan.
· He is buried in Madinah.
· The nmaes of his parents, wives and children.
The student will be able to retell stories which display the characteristics of the Prophet (saaw). The student should see the Prophet (saaw) as an example to follow.
The Pillars of Iman:
The student will memorize, and know the meaning of each of the following pillars of Iman:
· Belief in the oneness of Allah (swt)
· Angels
· Books
· Prophets
· The day of judgement
· Qadir
Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Esa (AS)
We have chosen to focus on these two Prophets this year because not only are they important Messengers of Allah, but also, our students will hear about them throughout their life in the United States.
Prophet Ibrahim (AS):
· The student will be able to identify Prophet Ibrahim by his name Khalilullah.
· The student will know and will be able to retell the story of Prophet Ibrahim.
· The student will focus on the lesson of the complete submission of Prophet Ibrahim to Allah’s will.
· The student will know that the Kaaba was built by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Ismail (AS).
· The student will be able to retell the story of ZamZam.
Prophet Esa (AS):
· The student will identify the miracles of Prophet Esa (AS)
· The student will know the name of his mother, Maryam (AS) and that she was a chosen lady.
Duas:
· Dua after Adhan
· Dua of Ibrahim (AS)
· Dua after performing wudu (ablution)
· Dua before traveling
· Special astaghfar for the month of Ramadan
Quran Reading:
By the end of the academic school year, students will be finished with the Qaida.
Language Arts:
In Language Arts, the children will be working on developing their oral language skills, phonological awareness, print awareness, vocabulary, comprehension and appreciation of literature. Beginning with Phonics, the children will Inshallah be able to read short books by the end of the year. In writing, they will be able to independently write short sentences. Our language arts
curriculum consists of two main parts, divided into the first and second semester of the school year.
In the first half of the school year, the children will mainly be working on the sounds of each letter, and will also be learning their first set of sight words. In writing, they will be focusing on penmanship, and forming all the letters correctly.
In the second half of the school year, we will begin blending sounds and reading individual words. We will be blending sounds orally to make words or syllables. In writing, the children will first start writing individual words, and will then eventually write, read and explain their short sentences and drawings.
Mathematics:
Our goal in this class is to make the children familiar with writing and recognizing numbers from 1-100. They will also be introduced to the following concepts, and will be able to answer mathematical questions in these areas:
· Identify and continue patterns.
· Identify more, fewer or same number of objects in a set
· Identify and compare size and shape of plane geometric figures (circle, triangle, square& rectangle)
· Greater and less than
· Add whole numbers to 20.
· Subtract whole numbers to 20.
· ount by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.
· Identify the instruments used to measure length (ruler), weight (scale), time (clock), digital and analog,calendar(day month and season), and temperature (thermometer)
· Measure objects in centimeters and inches, and distinguishing between the two units of measurement.
· Tell time by the hour and half hour.
· Recognize and know the value of the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.
· Identify the parts of a set that represent fractions for halves and fourths.
· Gather data by counting and tallying objects and also display gathered data in object/picture graphs and tables.
Science:
Our goal is this class is to encourage the children to observe and learn about the natural world around them, whether it’s their muscles, or the different kids of clouds, rocks, and animals that surround them. We will explore these different subjects in Units, with each unit lasting about 2-3 weeks, 4-6 classes.

The children will also do experiments and projects in class to explore the above concepts.
Social Studies:
In this class, the children will learn about the different cultures that are around them. The children will also learn about the lives of Muslims in many Muslim countries in order to develop a sense of Ummah. We will also focus on the following
concepts:
Learn about presidents Abraham Lincoln and George Washington
· The student will interpret information on picture time lines.
· The student will apply the traits of good citizenship.
· The students will read and draw simple maps by using the cardinal directions, and recognizing symbols for land, water, etc.
· The student will recognize and identify the shape of the United States and the state of Virginia on a map.
· The student will match descriptions of work that people do with the names of these jobs (learn
about community helpers).
· The student will distinguish between goods and services.
· The student will recognize the choices people make based on wants and needs
· The student will be able to identify the motivations behind saving money for future use.
Our main goal is to introduce the children to the diversity of the cultures and languages of all people, and to develop a respect for them. The children will learn about their own heritage and will be also be encouraged to bring ethnic clothing and food to class.
Arabic:
Learning a language, although difficult, is an extremely rewarding experience. Because we are aware of this, we want our students to begin this journey at a young age. For us as Muslims, Classical Arabic is the master key to hundreds of doors of knowledge. It is our goal to instill in our students a love for this language, and to build a strong foundation based on
reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This handout summarizes the objectives for each language domain.
Reading
The students will develop the reading skills necessary to read words in Arabic. Students will recognize the letters that indicate feminine nouns.
Writing
The students will be able to write the letters of the Arabic alphabet. Students will be able to write words in Arabic by writing
letters in the beginning, middle, and end forms.
Speaking
The students will be able to identify animals, shapes, colors, fruits, modes of transportation, and body parts in Arabic.
Students will be able to form dual and plural for human masculine nouns.
Students will be able to form the plural for human feminine nouns.
The students will be able to greet others, and introduce themselves in Arabic.
Listening
The students will be able to identify familiar vocabulary words in the Quran.
The students will listen to simple stories in Arabic, and follow the plot.
The students will be able to follow commands in Arabic.
